Bonsai trees are planted in bonsai pots that restrict the development of the roots but will also enhance the look of your bonsai tree. Special soils are available that provide the perfect conditions for your bonsai to grow in.

Many specialist methods are used to shape and give unique character to your bonsai tree including leaf trimming, wiring, grafting on other plants, short term dwarfing and deadwood, (a process used to age the bark). Few special tools are required to sculpt bonsai, and these are readily available for little cost. Everything you require to start growing bonsai can be easily bought from a specialist bonsai nursery.

Bonsai can be had as both indoor and outdoor types, some bonsai trees are improved if they are left outdoors during summer and brought inside in the colder winter months.

For those that like the idea, but doesn’t want to maintain bonsai, you can buy artificial bonsai trees.
